Calming Illustrative Mindfulness

KaleidoscopeME held a teacher-training for all teachers of the Rochester Museum & Science Center summer camp. The goal: each participant would leave with a toolkit of mindfulness-based practices to help students feel grounded, de-escalate stressful situations, and re-regulate the nervous system.

Kaylin McCarthy — founder of Mindful Traditions, trained Social Therapist, 500‑hour YTT, HANDLE practitioner, and certified Holistic Life Coach — opened as the first speaker. Addressing caregivers and guardians in the room, she presented “Mindfulness for Neurodivergence,” beginning with opening remarks and a KaleidoscopeME temperature check. Her session moved through breathwork and seated meditation into moving meditation, modeling practices teachers can use with groups and individuals. After a break, instructors learned practical stress-relief tools, approaches for bringing mindfulness outdoors, and classroom-ready tips and tricks to support regulation and attention.

Liza Savage Katz closed the day by sharing her personal journey: how this work has transformed her life, the children she serves, and her evolving vision for education.

Teachers and educators left the workshop with increased confidence, a deeper recognition of neurodivergence, and a set of accessible strategies to help children arrive in a better state for learning.
