NAAEE Research Symposium and Conference

KaleidoscopeME joined Bowen Family Farm as a presenter at the NAAEE Conference and Research Symposium hosted by the North American Association for Environmental Education. Our joint presentation highlighted Nature-Based Learning in action and emphasized five interconnected themes: Health & Well-Being Connection, Farm-to-Table Learning, Nature’s Wisdom & Self-Awareness, Impact & Interconnection, and equitable access to outdoor experiences.

The Bowen Family Farm × KaleidoscopeME partnership extends far beyond the farm. By bringing farm- and nature-based experiences into classrooms, homes, and communities—particularly those with limited access to green spaces—we’ve observed measurable benefits: stress reduction, improved mood, cognitive boosts, and strengthened resilience among children and families. These outcomes matter now more than ever, as children’s mental health and their connections to the natural world face increasing challenges.

At the conference, our presentation reinforced the urgency of integrating nature-rich learning into education and community programming. We showcased bright spots from conference poster sessions and prerecorded research symposium contributions that demonstrate practical strategies and evidence-based impacts. Case examples illustrated how farm-to-table activities foster hands-on learning about nutrition and ecosystems, while reflective nature practices build self-awareness and social-emotional skills.

Our approach is rooted in the conviction that we are stronger together. When children and families are given the chance to breathe fresh air, move their bodies, and learn from the natural world, they thrive. Through partnership and shared experiences, Bowen Family Farm and KaleidoscopeME are helping to strengthen connections—to nature, to one another, and to the communities we serve.
